STEVE DAVIS has warned snooker not to fall into a speed trap.

The six-time world champion heads for the World Seniors event in Peterborough today. And even the veterans’ tournament has had a 30-second shot clock imposed this year.

But the “Nugget” insists that the game doesn’t need speed for drama.

He said: “How snooker works as an entertainment is on building drama and tension. Fans realise this, but it’s probably more TV companies behind it.

“I’m less against a time limit on a frame, but for shots, you want to see the drama.”

Ironically Davis, 54, who will be competing against Crucible kings Dennis Taylor and Cliff Thorburn, opens up his campaign today against Malta’s ‘Tornado’ Tony Drago, the fastest player in history.
