The drinks were on Judd Trump in Sheffield on Thursday night after his Crucible comeback against Liang Wenbo at the World Snooker Championship.

Trump was in deep trouble after the first session of his opening-round match against the Chinese player, trailing 6-3 in the best-of-19 contest.

The Bristol potter tweeted before resuming the game this afternoon: "Drinks on me later if I get out of jail here #betfredworldchampionship."

It didn't start as he had planned, dropping the first frame of the session to leave himself a four-frame deficit, but Trump recovered to win seven of the next eight and progress to the last 16.

He revealed afterwards that he planned to stick to his word and put £200 behind the bar at a pub in the city, and confirmed he had done so later on.

Trump tweeted: "Free drinks on me @GradSheffield from 7 o'clock just say my name... Enjoy."

The world No 5 won't have minded the couple of hundred quid leaving his pocket, as a second-round berth now means he will take home a minimum of £22,000 from the tournament in South Yorkshire.

That is £8,750 more than he would have earned should Wenbo have held on to his advantage.

"I will put a couple of hundred quid behind the bar at The Graduate and whoever comes in first can have a free drink," a relieved Trump told the BBC.

"If anyone supported me then I will definitely get them a drink, if they can prove it!

"He looked edgy from the start, but I scored heavy and got back into it. I played some good stuff today. I stayed strong.

"It seemed like when I had my back against the wall that's when I thrived. I played some real good snooker, just solid snooker. I wasn't forcing it really.

"I'm so pleased to get through. I can't wait for the next game now."
