Wireless Festival just got that little bit smart(phone)r, thanks to Vodafone VIP .

Launched today, the super-slick app will help revellers plan and share their ultimate personalised festival experience on their smart phone. And even better – it’s free.

Listing all the when and wheres for all the performances – allowing users to view the exact location of each gig - losing your mates in the Hyde Park fest-cluster just became that little bit less likely thanks to Vodafone VIP .

Thanks to a very nifty bit of widgetry, users share their location or set meeting points on a bespoke festival map from where location deets can then be broadcast to their friends’ smart phones.

Plus, take advantage of the functionality that means you can build a personal schedule with reminders to ensure you’re not queuing for the loo with false impressions of having time on your side when you’re actually just about the miss the start of The Chemical Brothers/Pulp/Black Eyed Peas/Grace Jones/Bruno Mars or any other of the acts .

That loo wait isn’t a complete waste of time though. Apart from the obvious relief available at the queue’s end, kill those cross-legged (physically possible?) moments, festival-goers can swot up on all the latest info on the acts.

In addition, the app allows people to share their favourite acts on Facebook and Twitter, view a photo gallery of festival images and access local information and weather forecasts. Clue: it’ll probably rain at some point.

Along with all of that, the app will download the latest updated schedule when it is first launched over a 3G or Wi-Fi connection. After that the schedule can be viewed, even when offline.

Free to owners of iPhones and Android handsets on any network, Vodafone customers can find out about all festival benefits at vodafone.co.uk/vip .

Vital, really, isn’t it? Almost as the actual tickets to get in.
